Fall All-WNY Scholar Athlete winners and honorable mentions announced

FALL SCHOLAR-ATHLETES FROM AKRON SCHOOLS ANNOUNCED
AKRON, NEW YORK (November 28, 2018) – Akron Central Schools is pleased to recognize fourteen seniors who have earned Scholar-Athlete All Western New York selection by Section VI of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. This designation is reserved for seniors with an overall grade point average of 90 or above for six semesters who are starters or important reserves on their respective athletic teams.
Olivia Diebel of Akron’s varsity field hockey team has won the top scholar-athlete recognition. She will be featured with other scholar-athletes from Western New York in an upcoming edition of The Buffalo News and will receive a t-shirt recognizing this distinction, compliments of ADPRO Sports.
Additionally, thirteen students from ACS earned Honorable Mention as scholar-athletes in Section VI, including Nathan Chubb, Hailey Hall, Elise Leeds, Grace Norton and Marissa Venter of the cross country teams, Aurora Hockwater from the volleyball team, Adriana Militello of the field hockey team and soccer players Andrew Marsh, Kaleb Delaney, Riley Polkowski, Micah Suckow, Riley Trzenski and Jenna Robnett.
"Most people are blessed with one or two talents in life – here you have young men and women who excel in the classroom and on the field of play,” commented Mr. Joseph Lucenti, High School Principal. “It does not end there. These are dedicated and hardworking individuals who are also compassionate and character-filled human beings. To say we are proud of them is a true understatement. We are inspired by them and thank them for the ideals by which they live.”
Mr. Stephen Dimitroff, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director also offered his congratulations.
“It's no secret that our student athletes continuously excel on and off of the field, but to have this many scholar athletes acknowledged this fall is truly remarkable,” he said. “Congratulations on being named the best of the best in Western New York! Way to go scholar athletes! Go Tigers!”
The fall sports for which Akron Schools participates include cross country, field hockey, football, golf, soccer and volleyball. Nominations are submitted to Section VI with the student’s transcript, academic and athletic accomplishments, community service and other school activities.
