     The Akron Central School Boys Basketball Program is hosting the 2025 Jack Silvernail Memorial Holiday Basketball Classic on December 18th and 19th, 2025.  This tournament includes competition with both JV and Varsity teams from Alden, Pembroke, Starpoint and Akron high schools.  Games will be held at the Akron athletic facilities at 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, Akron, with tip-offs at 4:30PM, 6:00PM, and 7:30PM on Thursday and Friday.
     Originated back in the 1970’s by Mr. Jack Silvernail, long-time teacher and coach at ACS, the Akron Holiday Basketball Tournament is a tradition that brings out local basketball fans, whether they know the players or not.  In 2010, the tournament was renamed the Jack Silvernail Holiday Classic in honor of his brave fight against cancer and at which time the team began its efforts to raise money for cancer research.  Sadly, Coach Silvernail lost his battle with cancer in Fall 2011, and his wife, Joyce, an avid supporter of the basketball program at ACS, also passed away from cancer in Summer 2014.  However, the team continues the tournament’s tradition in Jack and Joyce’s memory, raising awareness and money for the fight against this dreaded disease.
     The concession stand will be open with partial proceeds to benefit the V Foundation where 100% of the donations go to cancer research.  In addition, the basketball program will donate money to one of Mrs. Silvernail’s favorite local organizations, Hearts and Hands, a group dedicated to serving those in need within the community.

Congratulations to our Varsity Field Hockey team for a fantastic season! The Lady Tigers took the train to Poughkeepsie to take on Whitney Point in the SEMI-FINAL game for the NYSPHSAA Class C Field Hockey STATE CHAMPIONSHIP on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at host Arlington High School. The team put up an impressive battle but lost 2-0. You make us PROUD!
