General Music Class

Students in Kindergarten through 5 receive music class once per our 6-Day cycle.

Here are some highlights of the exciting things happening in our Music Classroom!

Kindergarteners play unpitched INSTRUMENTS such as a triangle while learning to keep a STEADY BEAT.
 
Peter Rabbit song
Kindergarteners sing a variety of songs related to the seasons. Here they are singing a song about Peter Rabbit. 
They use their INDIVIDUAL SINGING VOICE to echo the names of the vegetables Peter Rabbit ate in Mr. McGregor's garden.

Students participate in many SINGING and RHYTHM ACTIVITIES.

First graders learn SIMPLE FOLK DANCES from MANY DIFFERENT CULTURES.

Students play many instruments such as the XYLOPHONES and METALLOPHONES.

 Students sing a variety of songs including AMERICAN FOLK SONGS.

Second graders learn to READ AND CREATE rhythm patterns.  An early step in MUSIC LITERACY.

Third graders learn to play RECORDERS. 
This experience is a great introduction to playing a band or string instrument in 4th grade.

Fourth graders use the skills we have worked on in past years and create FULL PERFORMANCES including pitched instruments such as xylophones, unpitched instruments such as tambourines, and singing.

Fifth graders are COMPOSING class songs which include creating words, rhythms, and a melody.  They will put these musical elements together to create a performance of their song.

Fifth graders also enjoy learning how to play AFRICAN TUBANO DRUMS.
