Registrations for Universal Pre-k is Open for 2026-27

The Akron Central School District announces that applications are being accepted for the 2026-27 Universal Pre-K program, funded through New York State for the Akron-Newstead area. Children must be four (4) years of age on or before December 1, 2026 in order to be eligible. The deadline to submit an application is May 1st 2026.

Information about the program can be found under the “Quick Links” on the Akron Schools website or at www.akronschools.org/upk

The UPK Program located at Akron Elementary School will offer two full day classrooms. Our second UPK program site, Rattles to Reading, will continue to offer two ½ day classes. If necessary, a lottery will be held and applicants will be notified at the end of May where they received placement.

The program runs from September to June, generally on the same calendar as the K-12 program.

The pre-kindergarten curriculum is well articulated and coordinated so that children in each program meet the same standards. The learner-centered curriculum builds on English literacy, social and emotional development, and physical skills. For questions regarding the UPK program and for the application and registration packet, please contact the Registrar, Miss Madison Machelski, Room E-151 at Akron Schools, 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, Akron, New York or (716)542-5039 or email mmachelski@akronk12.org
