Students Connect with Community During First Day of Caring Event

Students of all ages in the Akron Central School District connected with their classmates and the community as they took part in a variety of heartfelt hands-on projects during the district’s first Day of Caring.

That meant middle school students gardening and cleaning at Russell Park, high schoolers interacting and reading to Pre-K students, and elementary students walking in the community to share handcrafted flowers and positive messages with community members. 

“Today was a powerful reminder that education is not only about academics, but also about helping students understand the importance of service, compassion, and community. Watching our students work alongside staff members to give back with such pride and purpose was incredibly meaningful.” said Superintendent Andrea Kersten Taylor.

She added, “What we witnessed today truly reflected the spirit of #OneAkron and the values that make this community so special.”

Other locations visited and helped by students and staff during the day include the Akron Fire Company, the Wright Center, Akron Newstead Library, Octagon House, Sutton Knight Museum, Akron Senior Center, Akron Village Hall and White Whiskers Senior Dog Sanctuary.

The event supports the district’s Strategic Planning Goal #1: “Akron Central Schools will continue to expand student experiences and enhance community engagement opportunities."
