Workshop Scheduled for Prospective School Board Members

A sticker reads "I voted"

Akron Central Schools will have two board of education seats up for election at the May 19, 2026 budget vote and school board elections for the 2026-2027 school year.  The District encourages any potential resident considering becoming a candidate to serve on the Akron Schools’ Board of Education to attend a free workshop provided by the Erie County Association of School Boards.

The prospective school board member workshop entitled “Anyone ever tell you you’d make a great school board member?” will be presented as a public service from 9:00 – 11:30 AM on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at the Erie 1 BOCES Education Campus, 355 Harlem Road, West Seneca, in Building B (Conference Room B1).

Potential candidates will learn the legal issues of school board leadership.  They will find out about the election process from school attorneys and understand the relationship between the Board of Education and the Superintendent.  There will be an opportunity to listen to current school board members who will share what it is really like to go through the campaign process and serve as a school board member. It is an opportunity to gather valuable information and get questions answered.

A light continental breakfast will be provided.  To register for this free workshop, please call the Erie County Association of School Boards at (716) 821-7297 or email ssummers@e1b.org.
