AKRON, NEW YORK (April 1, 2019) – Akron Central Schools is pleased to recognize eight seniors who have earned Scholar-Athlete All Western New York selection by Section VI of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. This designation is reserved for seniors with an overall grade point average of 90 or above for six semesters who are starters or important reserves on their respective athletic teams.
Nathan Chubb of the Akron boys varsity swim team and Sara Pisano from the cheerleading squad have won the top scholar-athlete recognition. They will be featured with other scholar-athletes from Western New York in an upcoming edition of The Buffalo News and will receive a t-shirt recognizing this distinction, compliments of ADPRO Sports.
Additionally, six other ACS seniors were named Honorable Mention as scholar-athletes in Section VI. They are Alexis Cramer, Madison Harris, Morgan Harris, Skyler Masse and Riley Polkowski from the swim teams and Elise Leeds of the girls basketball team.
“This is a prime example of the well rounded young men and women of Akron,” remarked Mr. Lucenti, High School Principal. “Their commitment and dedication in the classroom and on the field of play is not only evident, but is a positive prediction of their future success in life. It is also a tribute to our teachers, coaches, and parents who have guided them in so many ways. We are all proud to call them sons and daughters of Akron."
Mr. Dimitroff, Akron’s assistant principal and athletic director, also commented on the selection of students for this recognition.
“Once again, our student athletes prove their commitment to excellence in the classroom as well as in their athletic forum,” said Mr. Dimitroff. “These students truly embody what it means to be an Akron Tiger. Congratulations and Go Tigers!”
The winter sports for which Akron Schools participates include basketball, swimming, wrestling and cheerleading. Nominations are submitted to Section VI with the student’s transcript, academic and athletic accomplishments, community service and other school activities.
