AKRON, NEW YORK (June 3, 2019) – The Akron Central School District Athletic Wall of Fame committee is pleased to announce the 2019 inductees.  Four individual athletes will be honored at a ceremony to be held during the school’s homecoming festivities scheduled for Friday, October 4, 2019.

Kierstyn Sturmer, a Class of 2012 athletic standout, played varsity field hockey and varsity softball for four years and varsity basketball for three years.  She was MVP for both field hockey and basketball and was named to the First Team All-WNY Field Hockey Team as well as the All-State Field Hockey team her senior year.

Despite a year spent studying abroad as a Rotary exchange student in Australia, Emily Tanski ‘04 also made her mark on ACS athletics. She earned selection to the First Team Niagara-Orleans All-League for soccer and was a member of the league champion 200 and 400 freestyle swim relay teams, breaking the school record in the 200 relay which went unbroken until just recently.  She was also Section VI champ for pole vault and placed fourth at the state championship setting the school record at 9’ which still stands.

Daniel Klonowski, also from the Class of 2004, was exceptional on the gridiron as the iron man and had back to back 1,000-yard rushing seasons in 2003 and 2004 for the Tigers.  Dan also played pitcher and shortstop for the baseball team.  A five-year varsity starter and four-time team captain and wrestling champion at the N-O League and Class level, Klonowski held the record for career win/loss until recently when ACS athletes that he proudly coached surpassed his mark.

Michael Dean, Class of 2000, joins the Wall of Fame for his stellar contributions to the varsity football and basketball teams and as team captain led the teams to Niagara-Orleans championships in 1999 and 1998 respectively.  Mike also played club lacrosse for Liberty University and coached Akron’s varsity team for several years.

A more detailed description of the inductees’ accomplishments will be published in the fall as a feature of the Homecoming festivities.
