Akron Schools announces hire of new High School Principal

Mr. Brandon Ricci Akron Central School’s Board of Education and Superintendent Patrick D. McCabe are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Brandon A. Ricci as the High School Principal, succeeding retiring principal, Mr. Joseph Lucenti.

Mr. Ricci (pronounced “Ricky”) holds New York State administration certifications as School Building Leader Professional and School District Leader Professional for Grades K-12, Teacher Certifications as Literacy Specialist Grades 5-12 (Professional) and Social Studies Grades 5-12 (Professional), as well as Coaching (Football, First Aid and CPR).

Most recently, Mr. Ricci served as Assistant Principal for grades 6-12 at Pembroke Central Schools.  Under his tenure, the Junior-Senior High School saw a decrease in disciplinary referrals by almost 50%.  He is proud of this accomplishment and credits this to building relationships, consistent expectations, and a supportive staff.

Previously, Mr. Ricci taught ninth grade Global I, eleventh grade U.S. History, and twelfth grade Advanced Placement Government and Economics at Batavia City High School where he served as a department chair and was ranked as highly effective.
Ricci was also a varsity football coach, helping to lead the Blue Devils to the 2014 Section V Class B sectional title. In 2011, his mock trial team also earned the honor of being the GLOW (Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming County) champions. His greatest honor however, was being selected by the student body to deliver the 2015 commencement speech at graduation.

Mr. Ricci is a graduate of Canisius College, Buffalo, New York, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts with a dual major in Adolescent Education in Social Studies and History.  He holds a Masters of Professional Studies, Literacy Specialist Grades 5-12 from Buffalo State College, and a Certificate of Advanced Studies from SUNY Brockport with a Master's Degree in Educational Administration Grades K-12.

The son of a retired high school music teacher, Mr. Ricci still plays trumpet and drums on the worship team at his church. He resides on Akron Road, just five minutes from Akron Schools, with his wife, Bethany, a high school Special Education teacher for GVEP BOCES, and their three children: a daughter, Harper, and sons Hudson and Hayden.

"I am humbled and honored to serve as the next High School Principal for Akron Central Schools,” said Mr. Ricci.  “I appreciate your patience and support as I seek to fill the enormous shoes of 'Mr. Lu'.  I am excited to continue the long history of academic, fine arts and athletic excellence of Akron Schools.

“I hope to be found a man of substance, who loves people, is approachable and genuine.  A husband and father, first and foremost.  A man simply looking to leave a legacy worth passing on to the youth of the Akron community."
