AKRON, NEW YORK (May 21, 2021) – Akron High School’s top three seniors were honored at the 41st Annual Scholastic Achievement Recognition Dinner held May 20, 2021.  The Erie-Niagara School Superintendents Association hosts the annual event that honors the top three graduating seniors from public, private and parochial schools in Erie and Niagara counties for their academic success.
Attending the dinner and representing Akron Schools were Sara Schleef, Akron’s valedictorian, David Kalinowski, salutatorian, and Kathryn Geiger, who earned the third top spot in the class ranking for 2021.

The students attended the dinner with Akron’s Superintendent, Mr. Patrick D. McCabe, and Interim High School Principal, Mr. Stephen Dimitroff.
“Given the many challenges they have faced over the past 15 months, the academic achievements of Sara, David and Katy are especially impressive and noteworthy. They are tremendously deserving of this recognition,” said Mr. McCabe.  “Our entire faculty and staff is proud of them and excited for their family members. We know that they will continue to excel in their chosen studies and future careers.”
Due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, the annual event was divided among several geographic venues.  Akron students and administrators attended the dinner held at Lockport City High School.
Dr. Anna Quider, a former Grand Island graduate and currently Assistant Vice President for Federal Relations at Northern Illinois University, was guest speaker, providing an inspiring pre-recorded message.
Premiering in 2021, the traditional crystal bison awards presented to each student were commissioned by Victor Trabucco of Trabucco Studios of Clarence, New York.
More than 400 students, educators and business communities participate in the yearly event, which was sponsored by Hodgson Russ, LLP, Premier Consulting Associates, and Webster Szanyi, LLP.
“On behalf of the Akron Board of Education, I also want to thank Perry's Ice Cream and County Line Stone for their generous donations toward this event,” added Mr. McCabe.  “It doesn’t happen without the support of local businesses throughout the region each year, and the School Superintendents Association is appreciative.”
