Winter All-WNY Individual Scholar Athletes named!

2024 Winter All-WNY Scholar Athletes     Akron Central Schools is pleased to recognize nine seniors who have earned Scholar-Athlete All-Western New York selection by Section VI of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.  This designation is reserved for seniors with an overall grade point average of 90 or above for seven semesters who are starters or important reserves on their respective athletic teams.

Dylan Crockford and Dawson Stone of Akron’s varsity boys’ swim team, Ashlee Henning of the girls’ basketball team, and Trace Hill of the boys’ basketball team, have won the top scholar-athlete recognition.  They will be featured with other scholar-athletes from Western New York in an upcoming edition of The Buffalo News and will receive a t-shirt recognizing this distinction, compliments of ADPRO Sports.

Additionally, five students from ACS earned Honorable Mention as scholar-athletes in Section VI, including Emma Gerstung and Autumn Hall of the girls’ basketball team, Emily Snyder of the girls’ swim team, and Zackary Borton and Liam Haak of the boys’ basketball team.

Mr. Stephen Dimitroff, High School Principal and Interim Director of Interscholastic Athletics, offered his congratulations.
“It comes as no surprise that these four Tigers were recognized amongst the best and brightest senior athletes in all of Western New York,” he said. “Their hard work in the classroom is paralleled by their determination, perseverance, and leadership in their respective sports.  Congratulations Dylan, Ashlee, Trace, Dawson and our Honorable Mention Scholar Athletes! GO TIGERS!”

The winter sports for which Akron Schools participates include basketball, swimming, wrestling and cheerleading.  Nominations are submitted to Section VI with the student’s transcript, academic and athletic accomplishments, community service and other school activities.
