Akron Schools welcomes new administrative team members!

     Superintendent Andrea S. Kersten is pleased to announce several appointments to the Akron Schools administrative team following recommendations to the Board of Education and the subsequent approvals.
    Paul Kowalski - School Business AdministratorMr. Paul Kowalski, who has served the District as Director of Technology since April of 2022 and as Interim Director of Federal Grant Programs/Chief Information Officer for the 23-24 school year, will be the District’s next School Business Administrator.  Kowalski will work closely over the next few months with Mrs. Cynthia Tretter who has announced her retirement following 20 years serving the District in the role.
     “Paul possesses a comprehensive understanding of the financial and operational facets of our District, and I am confident in his ability to manage and optimize our resources effectively,” stated Mrs. Kersten. “Given his proven track record, strong leadership qualities, and deep commitment to our District’s success, I firmly believe that he is ideal for this critical role.”
     Mr. Kowalski earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geological Sciences as well as a Master of Education degree in Earth Science Education from the University at Buffalo. He taught science for 11 years in the Clarence and Williamsville Central School Districts. 
     At Canisius College, Mr. Kowalski earned a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration and Supervision.  He then earned an Advanced Certificate in School Business and Human Resource Administration from the University at Buffalo. He has held administrative roles in the Cattaraugus-Little Valley Central School District and Lockport City School District before coming to work at Akron Schools, the district in which he resides with his wife and three daughters. 
     Since coming to ACS, he’s been successful in cultivating positive and collaborative relationships in the school community and greater Akron community. Mr. Kowalski is an active member of the Akron-Newstead Chamber of Commerce and the Akron-Newstead Rotary Club.
     Mr. Mark Alexander - Chief Operations OfficerMr. Mark Alexander, who has been Akron Schools’ Director of Transportation since 2018, will be the new Chief Operations Officer. In this expanded role, he will lead both the Transportation and Facilities Departments.
     “Mark is an exceptional leader, demonstrating remarkable dedication and effectiveness. He consistently promotes a culture of trust and collaboration with everyone he works with,” said Mrs. Kersten.  “Combining the responsibilities of transportation and facilities under his capable leadership will allow for greater efficiency and coordination within our District.”
     Mr. Alexander holds certifications as School Building Leader and School District Leader from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Leadership Academy in Educational Administration program. He was a fifth grade teacher, elementary principal, and former superintendent at Oakfield-Alabama Central School.
     Ms. Renee Reedhardt has been appointed the new High School Assistant Principal and Mr. John Morello has been named Middle School Assistant Principal and Director of Interscholastic Athletics & Physical Education.
     Ms. Reedhardt comes to Akron Schools with 20 years of experience with Iroquois Central Schools teaching Health and Physical Education and coaching. She also interned as a Summer Academy Principal and, most recently, was Teacher on Special Assignment as assistant principal at the high school.
     Renee Reedhardt - HS Assistant PrincipalReedhardt has collaborated with local agencies to promote Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) opportunities within and beyond the school environment. She developed a high school health education curriculum that encompassed the state’s regulations on Erin’s Law, mental health, dating violence, opioid prevention, bullying, cyberbullying, harassment, trauma-informed instruction, and Dignity for all Students Act, among other crucial topics.
     She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Health Education K-12 from SUNY Brockport, her Master’s degree in Physical Education K-12 from Canisius College, and has her Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership for both the Building and District Level from SUNY Fredonia.
     Mr. John Morello returns to Western New York following over 25 years in education at the secondary and college levels with Horry County School District and Coastal Carolina University, respectively, in South Carolina, near Myrtle Beach.
     Morello was a soldier with the US Army and a member of the All-Army Wrestling Team before teaching Physical Education and coaching wrestling and football with Horry County Schools earning many accolades including Teacher of the Year at his school and Coach of the Year for the state of South Carolina. He has been the Football Life/Character Coach and Campus Director for ten years at Coastal Carolina University.
     John Morello - MS Asst Principal/Athletic DirectorHe holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Carolina Coastal University, a Master of Arts in Theology and Master of Science in Administration and Supervision from Liberty University.
     The new administrators will be working during the summer building new relationships with the administrative team, teachers developing new curriculum, and support staff, in preparation for the 2024-25 school year.  Students return to school on Thursday, September 5th.
