National Technical Honor Society to induct 8 Akron seniors!

     A total of 188 students from 27 Western New York high schools were inducted into the Erie 1 BOCES chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) from the Harkness, Ken-Ton, Potter and Calspan Career and Technical Centers.  The ceremony was held at Villa Maria College on Thursday, November 21, 2024.

     This year’s cohort includes eight seniors from Akron High School.  Those seniors, and their Erie 1 BOCES Career and Technical Education program, include: Kaitlyn Bower, Animal Science; Joseph Felski, Web Technologies & Game Programming; Aiden Parker, Dental Laboratory Technology; Cooper Rebmann, Electrical Systems; Devin Rodriguez, Web Technologies & Game Programming; Katerina Ryszka, Health Careers; Jordan Smith, Cosmetology; and Ephraim Vohwinkel, Building Trades.  

     “It is with immense pride and admiration that I congratulate each of our students on their induction into the National Technical Honor Society,” said Mr. Stephen Dimitroff, Akron High School Principal. “Their hard work, dedication, and passion for excellence in technical education have set them apart. They embody the values of commitment, integrity, and innovation, and this achievement marks a significant milestone in their academic and professional journey. I encourage them to continue to reach for excellence and know that they have bright futures ahead. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor! Go Tigers and Nya:wëh!”

     In order to qualify for acceptance in NTHS, a student must meet rigorous academic and attendance requirements. They must have a 90 percent or higher average in their career and technical education (CTE) course, and maintain an overall grade point average (GPA) of 85.  Furthermore, the students are required to submit letters of recommendation, undergo a formal interview, and present a career portfolio before an NTHS screening committee.

     As part of public education, Erie 1 BOCES offers a variety of career and technical programs during the regular school day to high school students in Erie County. High school students interested in learning more about how they can participate in various programs such as fashion design, web and gaming technologies, health careers or aviation technology, should visit www.e1b.org/cte or speak with their high school counselor.
