Rotary Interact Club collecting school supplies for school in Honduras!
The Akron-Newstead Rotary Interact Club is collecting school supplies for a new school being built in an impoverished area of Honduras that was devastated by Tropical Storm Sara in November 2024. The collection is a supportive collaboration with the Albion High School Interact Club.
Mr. Matthew McHale, Interact Club advisor, is working with club members to facilitate a district-wide collection at Akron Schools. The supply drive is for all types of notebooks (e.g. marble or spiral), folders, pencils, pens, highlighters, crayons, pencil sharpeners, and rulers. They are also looking for donations of paper or colored construction paper.
Donated items may be dropped off at any of the three main building offices as well as at the main flagpole entrance. The deadline for bringing donations is January 30th.
“We are privileged to be able to organize the collection for this indigent community in Honduras that has suffered from a devasting storm,” noted Mr. McHale. “Thank you in advance to our families and staff who are able to help with this cause and to our Interact Club members here at ACS and in Albion for making it happen!”
Akron-Newstead Rotary Interact Club students will be attending a leadership conference at Albion High School in early February and will deliver the donated items. The Albion Interact Club will arrange for shipping to Honduras.
