 Red Ribbon Week Banner

During the week of October 27th-31st, we will be observing Red Ribbon Week at Akron Elementary School.  Red Ribbon Week is a campaign created in 1988 to raise awareness and promote prevention of alcohol and drugs.  It is a time devoted to teaching children an important lesson: to say "NO" to drugs and "YES" to healthy lifestyles, including good character traits and positive choices.

Below is a list of activities in which all faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to participate to demonstrate their support of and commitment to a drug-free lifestyle:

Monday (10/27): “GIVE DRUGS THE SLIP” DAY

  • Morning announcements will include a brief history of Red Ribbon Week and a description of the week’s activities.
  • All are invited to wear their favorite pair of slippers (with pajamas!), representing our day’s theme of “giving drugs the slip!”

Tuesday (10/28): RED DAY

  • All should wear red in honor of Red Ribbon Week, symbolizing the importance of living a drug-free life!

Wednesday (10/29): “I’M A DRUG FREE JEAN-IUS” DAY

  • Wear your blue jeans to show just how much of a “jean-ius” you are to stay away from drugs!

  • All are invited to wear their shirts backwards and/or inside out to demonstrate our awareness of the negative effects of drugs!

Friday (10/31): “SAY ‘BOO’ TO DRUGS” DAY

  • End Red Ribbon Week by participating in our school Halloween parade and say “Boo!” to drugs!
Akron Elementary participated in Fire Prevention & Safety Week with dedicated members of the Akron Fire Company.  The fire company creates age-appropriate lessons that include making 911 calls, preparing for an emergency, household safety tips, use of a fire extinguisher and much more.

Today... I will do my best to be my best!

I will listen the first time.

I will follow directions.

I will be honest.
I will respect the rights and
property of others.

I can learn.

I will learn!

Dedicated to making a difference, each and every day!
