During the week of October 27th-31st, we
will be observing Red Ribbon Week
at Akron Elementary School. Red Ribbon
Week is a campaign created in 1988 to raise awareness and promote prevention of
alcohol and drugs. It is a time
devoted to teaching children an important lesson: to say "NO" to
drugs and "YES" to healthy lifestyles, including good character
traits and positive choices.
Below is a list of
activities in which all faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to
participate to demonstrate their support of and commitment to a drug-free lifestyle:
Monday (10/27): “GIVE
DRUGS THE SLIP” DAY
Morning announcements will include a
brief history of Red Ribbon Week
and a description of the week’s activities.
All are invited to wear their favorite pair of slippers
(with pajamas!), representing our day’s theme of “giving drugs the
Tuesday (10/28): RED
Wednesday (10/29): “I’M
A DRUG FREE JEAN-IUS” DAY
your blue jeans to
show just how much of a “jean-ius” you are to stay away from drugs!
Thursday (10/30): “DON’T
LET DRUGS TURN YOU INSIDE-OUT” DAY
All are invited to wear their shirts backwards and/or inside out to demonstrate
our awareness of the negative effects of drugs!
Friday (10/31): “SAY
‘BOO’ TO DRUGS” DAY
End Red Ribbon Week by participating
in our school Halloween parade
and say “Boo!” to drugs!
| Akron Elementary participated in Fire Prevention & Safety Week with dedicated members of the Akron Fire Company. The fire company creates age-appropriate lessons that include making 911 calls, preparing for an emergency, household safety tips, use of a fire extinguisher and much more. |
