The Akron chapter of the National Honor Society inducted twelve new members during a ceremony held Thursday, January 13, 2016. An ensemble from the Music Department provided music as guests arrived. Director of Educational Services, Ms. Taweepon Siminski, welcomed everyone and led the Pledge to the Flag.
Current members of NHS spoke about the four pillars of NHS: Scholarship, Leadership, Character and Service. Juniors Kayleah Aldrich, Zachary Cleversley, Heather Cummings, Cierra Janis, Tyler Jones, Sydney Leeds and Abbigail Sokolofsky along with seniors Katherine Grant, Jenna Little, Allison Norton, Sarah Schultz and Morgan Wagner, were tapped by faculty members. Mr. Flynn and an accompanist provided a musical interlude prior to the formal introductions of each candidate and the candle lighting ceremony. They recited the NHS pledge and received pins and certificates. Principal Joseph Lucenti addressed the new members, their families and friends.
A reception with refreshments was prepared by the Akron PTA following the ceremony.
