Welcome to Akron Elementary School! Not sure about the "ins and outs" here at ACS?The following Q & A should help!1. The school day is from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. Most children will be dismissed by 2:35 pm. Buses are scheduled to depart from the bus line-up at 2:40 pm. The after school activity period is from 2:30 - 3:18 pm.
2:23 pm Bell rings Pre-K, Kindergarten & Grade 1 dismissal
2:25 pm Grades 2 & 3 dismissal
2. For safety reasons, children should not arrive at school before 7:45 am. At that time, supervision will begin in the cafeteria.3. PLEASE NOTE, that for safety reasons, all doors will be locked (from outside entry) at 8:20 am each morning. Visitors can be buzzed in at the elementary entrance and should sign in at the Elementary Main Office.4. The safety of all our elementary students is an important goal of our school. All students who are to be picked up by parents at 2:35pm or 3:18pm will report to the cafeteria. An attendant will sign them out. Please have personal identification with you. This policy decreases congestion in the office and ensures that all students are properly signed out. Students who are picked up before dismissal for appointments or other reasons should be picked up in the office (see #5 below).
Children should bring a note to school in the morning stating the time and reason for early dismissal. Parents should sign them out AT THE ELEMENTARY OFFICE. The office will call your
child down when you arrive; please bring proper identification with you.
6. Be aware that children who ride to and from school will, IN ALL CASES, be sent directly home, unless a note or telephone call (before 1:30 pm) is received by school authorities to the effect that the parent requests the child to be picked up or allowed to go to a different, specified location.
7. Parents are requested to call the Elementary Attendance Line at 542-5007 when their child will be absent, as well as send an excuse to school when the child returns. Excuses not received within FIVE days after a child returns to school will result in a child being marked illegally absent.8. A Parent-Student Handbook will be sent home during the first week of school. This will also include the teacher's homework policy. It is important that you read the handbook with your child.10. Labeling gym shorts, shirts, lunch boxes and other personal belongings with a permanent marker would be very helpful in case they are lost and returned to the office.11. Dress for school should be appropriate. There should be no revealing clothing such as midriffs, tube tops or halter-tops and the length of shorts and skirts should be below mid-thigh. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.12. Parents are encouraged to call the school at (716) 542-5050 whenever questions arise regarding your child's progress. We look forward to working with you and your child. With your help and cooperation, we will do our best to help your child experience academic, social and emotional growth this year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at (716) 542-5050.
