The Office of Curriculum & Instruction
The Akron Central School District is dedicated to providing an excellent academic and non-academic program to its students. Meeting the needs of all students is a high priority for both teachers and administrators.
The K-12 instructional program provides a strong foundation in all academic areas with its focus on Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum. At the core of our program is English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Technology, Art, Music, Physical Education and Library Media Skills. A full continuum of Special Education services is offered, allowing our students with disabilities to receive education within our District. The majority of our special education students receive classes alongside their general education peers with comprehensive services provided in the classroom.
A 10-month Universal Pre-Kindergarten program is available to children in the District. Students can be accommodated at no cost to parents. In addition, Akron also provides a comprehensive Native Studies curriculum at the Elementary and Middle School levels and offers Seneca Language Instruction leading to Regents credit.
The District's music department is top notch and participates widely in regional competitions and parades. As part of the regular instructional program, instrumental lessons in both band and string instruments are available beginning in fourth grade.
Akron strives to remain among the top rated school districts in the Western New York region for its academic achievement. Akron has achieved Honor Roll status in Business First Honor Roll of Public School District Ranking for 8 of the past 9 years.
