Welcome to my classroom. I have been teaching for over thirty years now. Two thoughts come to mind immediately.
First, where does the time go? To my new students, June 2023 will be here before you know it, and if you are a freshman, June 2026 will be here faster than you think. I encourage you to make the most of your brief time here. Hindsight is 20/20 and one of the most common refrains is “I wish I had…”.
Second, over the last 30 years, our society has changed faster than any other time in our nation's history. Cellular Phones were in small suitcases and tick tock was what my alarm did. Helping make sense of this is what historians do. History is a study of how we adapt to change.
There are many things that students can learn in high school, and much of that goes beyond the subject matter. I instruct courses in A.P. U.S. history, [also includes the U.S. Regents course material], Global nine world history and Global nine honors, but schools are also places of socialization. Here I practice respect, tolerance and compassion and will expect no less from my students.
Thank you, I am looking forward to a wonderful year and a return to what we once thought of as normal.
