  • Kylie Karmazyn
    KARMAZYN BREAKS SCHOOL HIGH JUMP RECORD - Eighth-grader Kylie Karmazyn has broken Akron's school record for the girls' High Jump! At the May 14, 2025, 96-45 win against Barker, Kylie jumped 5 feet, a full inch above former record-holder Samantha Bellis, who jumped 4' 11" back in 2022 to break a record that had held since 1996. Kylie earned second place at the N-O All-League meet hosted by Wilson on Tuesday, May 20th. Congratulations, Kylie! Go Tigers!

  • Baltzley is two-time All-WNY Scholar Athlete!

     2025 Winter All-WNY Akron Central Schools is pleased to recognize seven seniors who have earned Scholar-Athlete All-Western New York selection by Section VI of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.  This designation is reserved for seniors with an overall grade point average of 90 or above for seven semesters who are starters or important reserves on their respective athletic teams.
         Aubrianne Baltzley of Akron’s varsity girls basketball team has won the top scholar-athlete recognition. Baltzley, Akron’s 2025 Valedictorian, is a two-time winner of this recognition as she was also selected in the Fall 2024 season for volleyball. She will be featured with other scholar-athletes from Western New York in an upcoming edition of The Buffalo News and will receive a t-shirt recognizing this distinction, compliments of ADPRO Sports.
         Additionally, six students from ACS earned Honorable Mention as scholar-athletes in Section VI, including Nicholas Fry of the wrestling team, Brayden Lamont and Aiden Romesser of the boys basketball team, WakinyanWin LaFromboise and Gracie Leiker of the girls basketball team, and Avery Wolfe of the girls’ swim team.
         Mr. Stephen Dimitroff, Akron High School Principal, offered his congratulations.
         “We are proud to congratulate our Scholar-Athlete Award winner and honorable mention recipients for their outstanding commitment to both academics and athletics,” he said. “These students exemplify the true spirit of what it means to be an Akron Tiger:  dedicated, disciplined, and determined. Balancing the demands of sports and school is no easy feat, and their hard work, perseverance, and leadership have not gone unnoticed.  Nya:wëh and GO TIGERS!”
         The winter sports for which Akron Schools participates include basketball, swimming, wrestling and cheerleading.  Nominations are submitted to Section VI with the student’s transcript, academic and athletic accomplishments, community service and other school activities.
