Akron High School Crystal Tiger Award

Crystal Tiger Pedestal
  • Since 2007, the Crystal Tiger Award has been presented annually to a graduating senior who, in the estimation of peers, faculty, and administration, consistently exhibits the values of Akron High School. Such values include, but are not limited to, integrity, respect, compassion, and service to others. The recipient exhibits dedication and commitment to the formation of a school community founded upon excellence. Additionally, this individual demonstrates intellectual competence, realizing academic potential through hard work and persistence.

The Akron PTA provides a $1,000 award to the recipient.

    Nomination Process:

Each spring, any faculty or staff member may nominate one or more seniors. Students do NOT apply for this award.

    Selection:

The student body votes online in a weighted manner (Seniors 4, Juniors 3, Sophomores 2, Freshman 1) after receiving biographies and nomination summaries for each candidate.

    Award Presentation:

At the graduation ceremony, the winner is announced and awarded the Crystal Tiger and a $1,000 check from the Akron PTA.

In addition to a Crystal Tiger plaque awarded to the recipient, a Crystal Tiger mounted on a base remains on permanent display at our school. Each year, a metal plate with the name and year of the recipient is mounted to the base of the Crystal Tiger.
