August 21, 2023 Update
Dear Community Members,
As we navigate the planning stages of our Capital Improvement Project, it's essential to keep our community informed. Please note that while these discussions are detailed, all implementations will be contingent upon budgetary considerations and further reviews. Please find a summary of the discussions from our recent meeting on 8.18.23:
Tennis Courts:
-
There are initiatives to resurface the courts, ensuring longevity and optimal playing conditions.
-
Committee feedback suggests an inclination toward an orange and gray color scheme. The possibility of incorporating the Akron logo on windscreens is also under consideration based on input from our coaches.
Infrastructure:
-
Our transportation center is undergoing a detailed review for alterations that include heating, cooling, technology updates, access points, and an ADA-compliant floor plan.
-
We are enhancing IT capabilities in our main building, improving the flooring in our technology classrooms, and refurbishing an elementary school restroom. The design will be consistent with our most recent renovations, ensuring uniformity. Updates to custodial closets include epoxy flooring and stainless steel wainscoting.
-
We are gearing up for a technology walkthrough to finalize our fiber needs and ensure uninterrupted connectivity. The introduction of a top-tier PA system is underway, with discussions around the best fit for our needs.
Gymnasiums:
-
Proposals include innovative designs for wall pads and consistent floor logos.
-
The placement of cameras within the gym for optimal coverage of live-streaming events and a review of the existing lighting infrastructure are also on the agenda.
Auditorium:
-
We're optimizing the dimmer racks and integrating LED fixtures to replace those that are older and less efficient..
-
Aisle lighting is under review, and we're considering integrated LED lighting for egress safety
-
Improvements to stage lighting and sound quality were also discussed
High School Main Corridor:
-
Recognizing the significance of the main corridor as a focal point within our district, extensive deliberations are underway. Proposals include integrating distinct Akron symbols, possibly weaving in elements from the Seneca Language. The potential branding on stairs and risers, executed with removable wraps, is under consideration. Our overarching aim is to make the corridor resonate with pride, honor Akron’s history, and celebrate the future.
We’re moving forward with great momentum, and your insights and feedback play an important role. Let’s keep the dialogue open and the ideas flowing. Please feel free to email us with your suggestions. If you would like additional information on any of the areas discussed, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Andrea S. Kersten
Interim Superintendent
